1999 starts out with a huge bang, and a huge surprise! Ric Flair comes out to address Bischoff, and states that instead of being fired, Bischoff will be demoted to the announcers booth, under the control of Tony Schiavone! Goldberg arrives at the Georgia Dome to face Nash, only to be arrested on grounds of stalking Miss Elizabeth! Nash tries to get the cops to let him go, only to run into Presidential canidate Terry "Hollywood Hulk" Hogan. Hogan makes what was to be his final appearance in WCW to wish his fans goodbye, until Nash comes out and begs new commissioner Ric Flair to let him wrestle not only Goldberg when he returns from the station (because he KNOWS he's innocent! ;) as well as Hogan for the title, knowing that he will wipe the man out. Well, Elizabeth keeps Goldberg tied up at the police station long enough to keep him out of the arena for the Nash/Hogan match. After a brief staredown Hogan goes on the "attack", pushing a finger against Nash, who falls down and Hogan goes for an immediate cover, gets the pin and regains the WCW title, with Nash, Hall, Hogan, Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell all hugging, having "outsmarted" everybody and reforming the nWo. Goldberg arrives, sees what went down, takes out Hall, Nash and finally spears Hogan. Lex Luger arrives in the ring, scares off Nash and Hall again, and cheers on Goldberg to pull the Jackhammer on Hogan, only to attack Goldberg behind his back and joining Hogan, Nash and crew. Afterwards he's spraypainted and given more of Hall's shock stick. The following Thunder, the Giant, Bryan Adams, Horace Hogan and the rest of nWo Black/White step up to ask Hogan/Steiner/Buff why they are wearing red/black colors, why they re-joined Nash/Hall/Lugar, and why they were kept out of the fold, with the Giant acting as the voice. Hogan finally makes it clear to the Giant that he was intentionally kept out of the know because it was his fault that he let Savage return and attack him, allowing for Bischoff to get beat and have to put up with Flair for 90 days, and that there is only room for one giant wrestler in the nWo, that being Kevin Nash. But Giant can be the big man in the nWo if he beats Nash the next week on Nitro, to which the Giant agrees.
Addition: After the two nWo's came back together, they began to attack the Latino World Order (LWO) on a regular basis for a couple of weeks. Their reasoning was that they only wanted one nWo! So President Flair ordered the LWO to cease, saying that it would keep people from getting hurt, and also promising them parties, limos, title shots, etc. A defiant Rey Mysterio, Jr. wouldn't take off his LWO shirt, infuriating Wolfpac members Nash and Luger.
Flair announces that he and he will face nWo members Bryan Adams and Barry Windham in a handicap match a WCW/nWo Souled Out, only for his son David to convince him to let him join in and make it a tag match. Flair also announces that the WCW tag titles are vacant because they have languished in a lack of competition and that there will be a tournament to determine the new champs, but Hall and Nash start to run in on the tournament matches, stating that they are the only tag champions because they were never defeated while they were together. Then the beatdowns start. First Konnan gets punked and is put out. Later that night the Giant is gone as he finishes out his contract in WCW and jumps over to the WWF (afterwards the rumors start that this jump had been planned since December of '96 and was set up between Paul Wight's agent, Hogan and a WWF official! (Bushwhacker Luke, of all people!). At Souled Out, father and son Flair defeat Hennig/Windham, only to face another nWo beatdown themselves. More tag tournament matches are interrupted by Hall and Nash.
In February Flair announces that Hogan will be facing Flair for the title. So the nWo goes out to not only beat down on Flair (thanks to the help of Eric Bischoff who is continually finding ways to throw wrenches in Flair's plans despite being supposedly out of the loop) but to stalk David Flair as well. The nWo clean house a little bit more as Curt Hennig is booted out after airing his dissention and is caught on hidden Wolfpac video. (Hennig was let go because they were "trimming the fat"). On again/off again nWo affiliate Bret Hart loses his U.S. heavyweight title to Roddy Piper in an semi-impromptu match ordered by Ric Flair earlier that night. We see the introduction of a mystery woman talking to a mystery person behind the camera. Big Poppa Pump decides to stalk Kimberly, which boils down to DDP vs. Scott Steiner at SuperBrawl, in which Steiner wins thanks to the help of Buff Bagwell. Also at SuperBrawl, The 4 Horsemen and the team of Curt Hennig and Barry Windham (neither affiliated with nWo anymore) in the finals of the tag team tournament, in which Windham pulls on his former Horsemen affiliation and uses his belt to choke out Dean Malenko in the no-DQ match to gain the belts. Hogan defeats Flair to retain his WCW/nWo heavyweight title with the help of that mystery person--revealed to be his own son David! David has been wooed by some hot chick (Torrie Wilson) and has decided to abandon his family and roots to be with her. Scott Hall defeats Roddy Piper to take the U.S. heavyweight title thanks to his friends. Dissention in the nWo Black and White builds as Hollywood Hogan is secretly turning each member against the other, which at this time builds up only to Stevie Ray and Vincent back stabbing each other and costing each other matches as one attacks the other with the stupid SlapJack! Oh, and Disco Inferno finally earns his place with the Wolfpac after he gets Arn Anderson arrested for assault. Rey Mysterio, Jr. and Konnan take on Kevin Nash and Scott Hall (making his second wrestling apperance of the evening, replacing the injured Lex Luger) Note: Luger injured his arm at a house show in a match against Konnan. They explained the injury by having Rey slam Luger's arm a limo door. Basically it's all Outsiders as Nash puts the powerbomb on Rey for the pin after Scott Steiner comes in and helps out. However, next night on Nitro, Nash agrees to give Rey his mask back. But Rey says that it's gone beyond that and it's now time for Rey to get a piece of Nash. So in an impromptu 2-minute match Nash beats up on Rey, sets him up for the Jackknife powerbomb, only for Rey to punch his way out of it, fall on top of Nash and get the quick 3-count from referee Nick Patrick (gee, he's not STILL disgruntled by the fact Bischoff fired him last year is he?? ;) and sets up his streak as a Rey "The Giant Killer" Mysterio as the next week he goes out and defeats Bam Bam Bigelow on Nitro (the shame!)
March is an even more fired up month for Flair. Instead of announcing his retirement as many expected, he announces that he is AGAIN facing Hollywood Hogan in the ring for the heavyweight title! This time there are some stipulations, which include that the match be in a steel cage with no door and barbed wire on the top, the first person who bleeds loses! No pinfalls. Hogan has added another stipulation--if Flair wins, Flair becomes PERMANENT President of WCW and Eric Bischoff takes a hike--if Hogan wins, Flair retires permanently. No goodbye matches or tours, no more camera time, he immediately packs it in and never returns to the squared circle. Benoit & Malenko will get one more shot at Hennig and Windham in a Lumberjack match. The beginning of the month also marks the return of Buff Bagwell to action! His first action? Getting the Big Spear O' DoomTM from Goldberg! And if that wasn't bad enough, Scott Steiner and Buff leave the ring, walking backwards down the aisle, and when they turn around they are greeted with a pair of clotheslines from a returning Rick Steiner! Next week on Nitro Pump and Buff face more of the same from the newly formed team of Goldberg and Rick Steiner. Buff takes the pinfall after Rick whips him off the ropes into a Goldberg spear and pin.
